Night of the Notables
One of the projects our students work on in 5th grade is Night of the Notables. The students choose a notable person from history and research that person’s life and achievements. They present their findings to their class, as well as to parents and community members at a Night of the Notables event where they also dress up as the notable person they have been learning about.
Science Fair
Our 5th graders participate in the Bigfork Science Fair each year. A few participants are also chosen to compete at the County Science Fair at the Fairgrounds in Kalispell. The students decide on an experiment, make their hypothesis – their testable statement for how the experiment will unfold – and then conduct their experiment a number of times to test their hypothesis. It is a hands-on learning opportunity where the student can showcase their own research from start to finish to their peers, their community and science fair judges.
