High School Career Center
Welcome to Bigfork High School Career Center!
The career center / counseling office is located directly across from the main office in Bigfork High School.
Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
It’s my job to be here for all students whether that be through academic, career, or social emotional supports. I love helping people and doing all I can to make their high school experience as smooth as possible and getting students out in the community exploring career options. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.
Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment is an opportunity for eligible juniors and seniors to earn college credits while in High School. It is an affordable way to ease the transition to future education and career opportunities. Bigfork Schools and Flathead Vallley Community College are currently offering theses courses through the Running Start program. Read more about Dual Enrollment (pdf).
National Honor Society
Any juniors or seniors that have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher as well as experience in community service and leadership are eligible to apply for National Honor Society. As a group, we focus on helping our community through various projects over the course of the year. Students are also required to do their own service on their own. We run the Veteran’s Assembly each year in addition to other activities. Applications are due in the beginning of the school year.
Apprenticeships
We are continuously working to bring more apprenticeship/internship opportunities to our school. Currently, we have agreements with Reach Higher Montana Youth Apprenticeship Program as well as FVCC in the following fields: IT/Tech, Culinary, CNA, HVAC, and – for seniors – Electrician (seniors only for this one). Stay tuned for more information on work-based learning.
The BHS School to Career program
The BHS School to Career Program allows students to complete academic requirements while gaining hands on experience. We are offering seniors credit if they would like to pursue internship availability in the greater Bigfork community, with opportunities in the fall and in the spring. This program has enabled students to get out in the work force to explore career fields such as teaching and photography.
Job shadowing
More and more businesses are offering opportunities for students to do career exploration through job shadowing. Students who are interested can reach out to Ms. Munson to inquire about specific job placement.
Tuesday talks
Starting in late September, we will have career Tuesday talks during WIN time. During these talks, community members will visit and enlighten students on their jobs and answer specific questions students might have in those career fields. Community members: If you are interested in participating, please email me at [email protected] to get on my list.
