Stuck in the Middle with You

Welcome to Bigfork Middle School’s webpage. Whether you seek information, communication or simply want to explore our school community, you are welcome.  Bigfork Middle School is located in the middle of the Bigfork Campus, in the middle of Bigfork Montana. Sense a theme?

The song by Stealers Wheel, Stuck in the Middle with You, is inadvertently a great example of what middle school is like. “Trying to make some sense of it all. But I can see it makes no sense at all. Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor? ‘Cause I don’t think that I can take anymore. Clowns to the left of me. Jokers to the right. Here I am stuck in the middle with you.”

The Middle. “Halfway between two given points.”  Not a beginning, not an end, but betwixt and between. Often when one is in the middle of something they are neither excited by the newness of the task, nor invigorated by the closeness of an end point.

Some schools avoid the word middle, they call themselves a “junior high,” and fancy as that might sound, we are and always will be a middle school.  We are not at the beginning of our journey, but we are close enough that we still have energy and interest and excitement and wonder. We are not at the end of our time, but close enough to understand how the world works, to start asking the tougher questions, to begin critically thinking about the world, and to be able to form our own opinions.  We have yet to be stripped of our childish wonderment but are past the time of blind adherence to someone else’s control.  If you think about it, the middle is a pretty great place to be.

And here we are stuck in the middle in Bigfork, the last best MIDDLE school in the world.
