At the end of February, our NHD students in Honors English and College U.S. History traveled to Helena for an enriching research experience. After competing at Regionals, students were eager to deepen their research and refine their projects in preparation for the State competition on April 25.

During the trip, students toured the newly opened Montana Heritage Center and were among the first student groups to access the new State Archives. Those researching Montana-focused topics had the unique opportunity to work alongside historians and analyze primary sources, while students exploring national topics collaborated with Dr. Hibbard from MSU to strengthen thesis statements and refine their projects.

The group also visited the Governor’s Mansion and the State Capitol, where they met with members of the Secretary of State’s office and engaged in meaningful discussions about the U.S. and Montana Constitutions.

In just a few weeks, these students will travel to Bozeman to compete at the State level, vying for a national qualifying spot to represent Montana in Washington, D.C. this summer.
